Fedora 10 Set to be Released Today

In a recent interview, Linus Torvalds himself said that he uses Fedora 9 on most of his computers.  His reason?  He wants it to be easy to install and keep up to date.  That speaks a lot for Fedora – Linus’ thinking is that he would rather be working on the kernel (That’s kinda what he does…) than wrestling with the OS that he uses.

According to the Fedora Project’s Schedule, version 10 is set to be released sometime today.  You can view a full feature list for version 10 if you like, but here are the ones that stood out to me:

  • Better Printing – Improve management and handling of printers
  • Better Start-up – Streamline the graphical startup
  • Better Webcam Support – Improved support for webcams
  • Faster Start-up – Decrease the amount of time it takes to start and stop Fedora
  • Gnome 2.24 – Re-base Fedora to Gnome 2.24

This release hasn’t been nearly as publicized as Ubuntu’s 8.10 release (at least in the news I’ve been exposed to), but it has some of the same features/updates that Ubuntu included.  If that is any indication, Fedora 10 will be a very nice release.  As soon as it is available, I plan to download and install it to give it a good workout.

Unfortunately Apple won’t create a Linux version of iTunes, so it can’t run on it natively.  The only thing I know of is to install Windows inside a VM using either VMware or Virtualbox and run iTunes there.
