If you follow Apple’s news at all, you’ll know that they have sued a company, Psystar, for building computers similar in hardware to Apple’s Mac computers, and running Mac OS X on them. Apple’s EULA for the OS states that their OS is only licensed to run on Apple’s own hardware. Obviously now, Psystar isn’t using Apple’s hardware to build their computers, so they are violating the agreement by installing it at all. Apple took them to court over it.
Psystar filed several counterclaims against Apple, including one that says Apple is a monopoly. They also went so far as to ask the judge to only consider Mac OS X and Macintosh computers when considering whether they are a monopoly. In other words, Apple has a monopoly on the Macintosh market. Is anyone else laughing yet?
The judge did. He threw it all out. He gave Psystar 20 days to straighten up their act. It doesn’t look good for Psystar. I don’t know of anybody besides those at Psystar that thinks it should be otherwise.
