GMail has actually done this with the Blackberry for a while now, but they’ve just announced support for iPhones, Windows Mobile devices, and other devices that support SyncML. Oh yeah! I should mention this is all obviously done wirelessly.
I personally own an iPhone. I had been using a free 3rd party service, Nuevasync, to sync my Calendar and Contacts wirelessly. It worked, and it worked well. They admitted themselves that Blackberry users should use Google’s app to sync Google data, so as soon as Google offered the service natively to iPhone users, I quickly jumped on the bandwagon.
To set up sync on my iPhone, I followed the easy instructions found here which included screenshots so that you’d have to try fairly hard to get lost in them. I was set up in less than 5 minutes, and the initial sync was even faster. Granted, I don’t have a ton of data (yet) in my calendar, and I only have 46 contacts so far, but that list is growing quickly.
If you have another device that you’d like to sync, Google delivers.
